How booking works

  1. Choose dates and vehicle

    See availability and rates for your dates and vehicle class instantly.

  2. Place a provisional booking

    Enter your details to hold the car. At this point your booking is not yet confirmed.

  3. Pay by card to confirm

    Your booking is confirmed once payment is complete. Please pay within 48 hours of the provisional booking.

For bookings made less than 48 hours before pick-up, payment must be completed within 10 minutes.

  • Reservation required

    Our branches are not permanently staffed, so if you arrive without a booking we may not be able to rent you a car.

  • Provisional bookings expire in 48 hours

    If payment is not received within 48 hours of the provisional booking, it is cancelled automatically.

  • Credit card payment only

    We accept VISA, Mastercard, AMEX, JCB and Diners. Cash is not accepted.

  • Change or cancel from your member page

    You can change dates, vehicle class or options, or cancel, from your member page. Cancellation fees follow our terms.

  • Bring your licence

    Please bring your original driver’s licence on the day. Overseas visitors also need their passport.

  • Return with a full tank

    Cars are handed out full and returned full. One-way returns between branches and shuttles to stations or hotels can be requested when you book.

Can I rent a car without a reservation?

Hakuba Rent a Car works on advance reservations only. Our branches are not permanently staffed, so if you arrive without a booking we may not be able to rent you a car. Please book in advance through our reservation page.

How does booking work?

Check availability and rates on our reservation page, then place a provisional booking. Your booking is confirmed once you pay by credit card, either straight away or through the payment link in the automatic email.

What happens if I don’t pay for a provisional booking?

If payment is not received within 48 hours, the provisional booking is cancelled automatically. For bookings made less than 48 hours before pick-up, payment must be completed within 10 minutes or the booking will not be confirmed. You are welcome to book again, but another customer may reserve the car in the meantime.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept online credit card payment only (VISA, Mastercard, AMEX, JCB, Diners). Cash is not accepted.

How do I change or cancel my booking?

You can change the dates, vehicle class or options, or cancel your booking, from your member page. Cancellation fees follow our terms and booking policies.

Can I return the car to a different branch?

Yes. You can pick up at Hakuba Station Branch and return to Cortina Norikura Branch, or the other way round. Please let us know when you book.

Can overseas visitors rent a car?

Yes. Hakuba Rent a Car supports both Japanese and English. To drive in Japan you need one of the following: a Japanese driver’s licence, an International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention, or a licence from an eligible country or region (Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Slovenia, Monaco or Taiwan) together with an official Japanese translation.
