Green Season Campaign

40% off every class, April to November

During the green season, all vehicle classes are 40% off. The discount applies to the 24-hour base rate.

Excluded periods: Golden Week, Silver Week and other extended holidays, three-day weekends, and the Obon and summer holiday period are not covered by the campaign.

Compact Class

Kei car

Kei car from Hakuba Rent a Car — a 4-seat 4WD with winter tyres, easy to drive on narrow mountain roads

A Japanese kei car with an engine of 660cc or less — typically an N-BOX, Spacia or Tanto. Easy to handle on narrow mountain roads and comfortable for two adults and two children. Luggage space fits roughly two wheeled suitcases. All 4WD, with studded winter tyres from December to March.

Minivan / wagon

Minivan from Hakuba Rent a Car — a 7 to 8 seat 4WD suited to family and group ski trips

A seven or eight seat minivan — typically a Voxy, Noah or Serena, depending on availability. Well suited to family holidays, group ski trips, golf, camping and barbecues. All 4WD, with studded winter tyres from December to March.

Child seat

Newborn to around age 4

Japanese law requires a child seat for children under 6. Please check the fitting yourself before setting off.

Junior seat

Around age 3 to 12

For children under about 140cm. Raises the seating position so an adult seat belt sits safely.

Ski carrier

Up to 4 snowboards or 6 sets of skis

¥1,100 / unit per 24 hours

Useful when your gear will not fit inside the car. We fit the carrier at the branch.

Shuttle & one-way drop-off

We run a shuttle to and from points around Hakuba and Otari — Hakuba Station, Happo Bus Terminal, Tsugaike Kogen and more. You can also collect at one branch and return to the other. Just let us know when you book.

A return trip is twice the one-way fare — ¥6,000 return within Hakuba and Otari. Depending on road conditions and how busy we are on the day, we may not always be able to run the shuttle.

Insurance & coverage

Basic third-party liability insurance is included in the rental rate. Vehicle repair costs and NOC (Non-Operation Charge) are not covered by the basic policy, so please consider one of the additional options below. All insurance and coverage applies to drivers aged 21 and over only.

Chosen by most customers and the option we suggest for peace of mind

Please note. Around the ski resorts, snow, icy road surfaces and narrow mountain roads make accidents more likely. For peace of mind we recommend Option C (vehicle coverage + NOC waiver). NOC is ¥55,000 if the vehicle can be driven back, or ¥110,000 if it needs to be towed (tax included).

Booking & payment

Payment is by online credit card only — we do not accept cash. Check availability on the booking page, hold a provisional reservation, and your booking is confirmed once payment is complete.

Advance booking required

Our branches are not permanently staffed, so if you arrive without a reservation we may not be able to rent to you. Please book ahead.

Provisional bookings expire after 48 hours

If payment is not received within 48 hours, the provisional booking is cancelled automatically. For bookings made within 48 hours of pick-up, payment is due within 10 minutes.

Cancellations and date changes are handled through your member page. In cases of force majeure such as natural disasters, please contact us and we will discuss it individually.

Fuel policy & house rules

We hand the car over with a full tank, and ask you to return it full. If it is not full on return, we will charge for fuel according to our standard calculation.

Late returns may incur an additional charge.

Petrol stations are sparse around Hakuba, so please allow time to refuel before your return.

All vehicles are non-smoking, and pets are not permitted.

Unpaid parking fines are subject to a ¥25,000 charge.

FAQ

Questions about rates

What is your cheapest vehicle?

The kei car at ¥11,000 per 24 hours, tax included. During the green season (April to November) it drops 40% to ¥6,600.

Is insurance included in the price?

Yes — the rates include unlimited personal injury liability, unlimited property damage liability with no excess, personal accident cover up to ¥30 million per person, and roadside assistance up to ¥150,000 per incident. Vehicle repair costs and NOC are not included, so we recommend adding Option B (¥3,300/day, ¥100,000 excess) or Option C (¥5,500/day, no excess).

What does the excess mean?

The excess is the amount you pay yourself before the coverage takes over. With Option B (vehicle coverage, ¥3,300 per day) the excess is ¥100,000: you pay the first ¥100,000 of repair costs and the coverage handles the rest. Option C (vehicle coverage + NOC waiver, ¥5,500 per day) has no excess and also waives NOC in full.

Do you offer long-term discounts?

Yes. In the standard season (December to March) rentals of 3 days or more are 10% off, and 7 days or more are 20% off. Monthly rates are ¥120,000 for a kei car, ¥150,000 for a compact and ¥220,000 for a minivan, tax included. Anything longer than a month is quoted individually.

Can I combine the green season and long-term discounts?

During the green season (April to November) the flat 40% discount applies regardless of how many days you rent. Because 40% is larger than the 10% and 20% long-term discounts, the green season rate is the one that applies.

What is NOC?

NOC, or Non-Operation Charge, compensates us for the period a vehicle cannot be rented out while it is repaired or cleaned after an accident, theft or soiling. It is charged separately from the repair cost itself. Ours is ¥55,000 if the vehicle can be driven back, or ¥110,000 if it needs towing (tax included). Option C (¥5,500 per day) waives NOC entirely.

What is the difference between a child seat and a junior seat?

A child seat suits newborns up to around age 4; a junior seat suits children from around age 3 to 12. Both are ¥1,100 per unit per 24 hours, tax included. Japanese law requires a child seat for children under 6. Numbers are limited, so please request one when you book.

Are winter tyres charged separately?

No. From December to March, studded winter tyres are fitted to every vehicle as standard at no extra cost.

Do you offer a student discount?

Yes — on the kei car only. The student plan is ¥8,800 per day in the standard season and ¥5,500 per day in the green season, tax included. It is available to students enrolled at a school in Japan; please show your student ID at pick-up. The plan cannot be combined with long-term discounts, coupons or other offers.

When do cancellation fees start?

Cancellation fees are calculated from your pick-up date and time. More than one month before pick-up is free; from one month to one week before is 20%; from one week to 48 hours before is 30%; within 48 hours of pick-up is 50%; and a no-show without notice is 100%.

When and how do I pay?

After holding a provisional reservation, pay online by credit card either on the spot or via the payment link in the automatic confirmation email (VISA, Mastercard, AMEX, JCB, Diners). Your booking is confirmed once payment is complete. Provisional bookings expire after 48 hours, and for bookings made within 48 hours of pick-up payment is due within 10 minutes. We do not accept cash.
