Kei car, compact car, SUV and minivan. All prices are per 24 hours and include tax and third-party liability insurance.
Winter discounts: 10% off for 3 days or more, 20% off for 7 days or more. Child seats (newborn to about 4), booster seats (about 3 to 12) and ski carriers are ¥1,100 each per 24 hours. Rentals of a month or longer are quoted individually. Green Season rates exclude major holidays, three-day weekends, Obon and the summer holiday period.

Place a provisional booking
Enter your details to hold a vehicle. At this stage your booking is not yet confirmed.
Pay to confirm
Pay by credit card straight away, or through the payment link in the automatic email. Your booking is confirmed once payment is complete. For bookings made less than 48 hours before pick-up, payment is required within 10 minutes.
Pick up your car
Bring your original driver’s licence (and your passport if you are visiting Japan). We check the car with you and hand over the keys.
Return
Please return the car with a full tank. One-way returns between branches and drop-offs at stations or your accommodation are also available.
Unpaid provisional bookings expire after 48 hours
If payment is not received within 48 hours, the provisional booking is cancelled automatically. Bookings made less than 48 hours before pick-up must be paid within 10 minutes.
Changes and cancellations via your member page
To change dates, vehicle class or options, or to cancel, please use your member page. Cancellation fees follow our terms.

Can I rent a car without a reservation?
Hakuba Rent a Car works on advance reservations only. Our branches are not permanently staffed, so if you arrive without a booking we may not be able to rent you a car. Please book in advance through our reservation page.
How does booking work?
Check availability and rates on our reservation page, then place a provisional booking. Your booking is confirmed once you pay by credit card, either straight away or through the payment link in the automatic email.
What happens if I don’t pay for a provisional booking?
If payment is not received within 48 hours, the provisional booking is cancelled automatically. For bookings made less than 48 hours before pick-up, payment must be completed within 10 minutes or the booking will not be confirmed. You are welcome to book again, but another customer may reserve the car in the meantime.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept online credit card payment only (VISA, Mastercard, AMEX, JCB, Diners). Cash is not accepted.

Do you rent child seats?
Yes. We have child seats (newborn to about 4 years) and booster seats (about 3 to 12 years). Each costs ¥1,100 per 24 hours, tax included. Numbers are limited, so please request one when you book.
Are all Hakuba Rent a Car vehicles 4WD?
Yes. Every Hakuba Rent a Car vehicle is 4WD, and from December to March every car is fitted with winter tires as standard, so you can drive snowy and icy mountain roads with confidence.
What is the Green Season campaign?
From April to November (Green Season), every vehicle class is 40% off. A kei car costs ¥6,600 per 24 hours, a compact car ¥7,800, and an SUV or minivan ¥14,400 (all tax included). Major holidays such as Golden Week and Silver Week, three-day weekends, and the Obon and summer holiday period are excluded.
Can I return the car to a different branch?
Yes. You can pick up at Hakuba Station Branch and return to Cortina Norikura Branch, or the other way round. Please let us know when you book.
Can overseas visitors rent a car?
Yes. Hakuba Rent a Car supports both Japanese and English. To drive in Japan you need one of the following: a Japanese driver’s licence, an International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention, or a licence from an eligible country or region (Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Slovenia, Monaco or Taiwan) together with an official Japanese translation.
